This sounds like an el- inelegant answer, but a lot of them start from making really dumb jokes. Um, I know I’m best known for Depression Quest, but a lot of my work and my dev has - I’ve probably put in more time making comedy games and working on them than I have serious games. So, a lot of it is just “Wouldn’t it be funny if” or “Ha-ha, this is kind of an interesting idea.” And then being like, you know what? I’m actually going to - I’m going to see where that goes. Um, so, if it’s a dumb joke or if it’s something like men- mentally, in the background, I de- deconstruct s- something, and I’m like, oh, that’s a system. That could be an interesting game because you could have players play with it and these, uh, these elements and get these interesting outcomes. Um, so, it - it really depends. But, it’s usually just like a - a little bit of an idea in terms of either premise or, uh, mechanically. But, it always, one way or the other, starts mechanics first.
