I love game jams because - so, you know, the - the scale of projects I'm usually on means that I'm on one project uh, full time for a year and a half, two years um, so it's a-a really large chunk of time to be emotionally attached to a singular kind of project. Whereas a game jam, I don't have to prepare. I can go into a weekend and not - not know what I'm going to have after it, and make a game in a weekend. And so, [] is-is the um, uh, the game jam that I like the best. It's uh - uh, it's an online one, and it's run uh, three times a year. And the theme is announced on Friday evening, and so you can't even prepare ahead of time because you don't know what the theme is going to be. The theme is announced, and you have to submit the game by like 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. And so, it's perfect. Um, I work hard all week. I come home from work on Friday and I sit there and I look at the theme, and I have all weekend to make a game. And it allows me to experiment in a way, in a very low-risk environment because what do I have to lose? Uh, worst case scenario, I'm not going to have a game done at the end of the weekend. Best case scenario, I'm going to have a great game at the end of the weekend that I'm really proud of and I'm happy to show - show all my friends. And so, it's - it's just a hugely rewarding experience to um, get the additional rep in there, get - try out an experiment with some different skills that you may not be able to experiment with um, in your day job. I don't code for my - my day job. I don't make art for my day job. Uh, but I do all of those things uh, when I do the game jam. Uh, so it allows me to kind of exercise different muscles and try different things um, and just have a lot of fun with it. So, yeah, it's about getting more reps in there and-and making more games and-and failing more often, and getting better at that. But it's also about uh, exercising different parts of your brain uh, that you may not normally get to do.
